Jackfruit / Kathal ki Sabji | How to make Kathal ki Sabji


Jackfruit or Kathal ki Sabji is a very famous sabji among vegetarians, it tastes very similar to non veg due to its earthy flavour and hard texture.
I have made this sabji in very easy manner using simple ingredients but it tastes extremely delicious.





Preparation Time:- 60 minutes
Servings:-4
Ingredients:-

  • Kathal- 400 gms
  • Onion - 3
  • Tomato- 1
  • Ginger- 1 inch
  • Garlic- 8 to 10
  • Bay leaf-1
  • Cinnamon stick- 1 inch
  • Cloves- 4
  • Green cardamom- 2
  • Coriander powder- 1 tsp
  • Red chilly powder- 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
  • Kashmiri red chilly powder- 1 tsp
  • Garam masala powder- 1/4 tsp
  • Green coriander leaves- 2 tbsp
  • Green chilly - 2
  • Oil - 4 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds- 1 tsp
  • Hing- 1 pinch


Method:-
  • In a pan add 2 tbsp of oil once hot add jackfruit pieces and fry till light golden.
  • Take it out and keep aside.
  • In the same pan add 2 tbsp of oil , and whole garam masalas, cumin seeds and a pinch of hing.
  • Now add chopped onion and fry till golden brown.
  • Now add dry spices and fry for 1/2 minute on low flame.
  • Add tomato, ginger and garlic paste and fry till oil starts ooze out.
  • Now add jackfruit pieces , fry for 2 - 3 minutes and add 1 and half glass of water, cover it and cook for 25 minutes on medium flame or till jackfruit softens.
  • After 25 minutes remove the lid and mix and add garam masala, green coriander and green chilly.
  • Mix and cover and cook for another 3 to 4 minutes.
  • After 4 minutes remove the lid ,mix and your delicious Jackfruit Sabji is ready to serve.
  • Serve hot with roti , paratha or rice.
